Getting inspired to do something great is not easy for everyone and getting motivated to do something with it can be even harder. Many of us have great ideas for projects that could have a positive impact on everyone around us, but we never put them into motion. There are a few simple steps that make it easy for anyone to take their inspired ideas and turn them into realities.
One of the most important things to do when trying to get a project complete is to keep an inspiration journal. Write about why you wanted to start this project in the first place and read it back when things start to seem too difficult. It is also a good idea to write down fears as to why the project might work and head off those hypothetical issues before they have the chance to become realities.
Sometimes a big project seems so daunting that we are afraid to take the first steps. Instead of looking at the big picture right away, make a list of small goals that need to be met along the way. These mini goals are far less intimidating than the super objective, but they all end up with the same goal in mind. Setting small, attainable goals helps people to believe that they can achieve whatever they have set their minds to.
Once those small goals start to become realities, take a moment to reward yourself for all of the hard work. Sometimes, when we begin to feel unappreciated for all of our efforts, our motivation starts to backslide. Reward yourself with a break or a special treat to remind yourself that, although you still have ways to go, you have made great strides towards achieving a difficult goal.
Another important element to turning inspiration into reality is setting a schedule and sticking to it. For example, someone might want to set up an after school program for underprivileged kids in their town. When they make a list of smaller goals, they should set a deadline for each one and aim to have it done in time. This will help ensure that things really do get done and do not keep getting pushed to the backburner to be done ‘someday.’
Finally, it is important for anyone with an inspired idea to remember that they do not have to do everything on their own. If an idea was inspirational to one person, it will surely be inspirational to another. Recruit other people to help handle some of the work load. This not only makes things easier, but it holds us accountable for doing the things we say we are going to do.
An inspirational idea is one thing but the reality of it is often quite another. Instead of biting off more than you can chew, break the project down into smaller, more manageable parts. Set deadlines and stick to them, allowing for rewards as each task is accomplished. Keep in mind that nobody has to complete a project on their own and that others are likely more than willing to get in on the action.
